Why it might be a good idea to have a shower in your business

It’s a bad idea. No one will use it. It wasn’t needed up until today, why does it suddenly matter? Not every employer can identify with a trend of office showers but maybe it’s time to reevaluate this approach for the 21st century.

For a long time, office showers were an exception rather than a rule. Their existence was in large part based on the nature of the work and most employers didn’t see them as a crucial part of facilities. This approach however rapidly changes with the evolution of society and bigger stress on the physical and mental health of employees. There are a number of reasons why, let’s go through at least the ones that are most important.

Commute

Traffic gets worse year after year. The number of cars on the road is on the constant rise and roads are not ready for it. Because of this many people have to add time spent in traffic to the bulk of time they spend at work. And that’s a time not paid. More so, it's a time no one will give you back. For that reason, many employees look at alternative means of transport. Electric scooters are the physically less challenging alternative but more and more people would like to commute either on foot, bike, or have a good run. And those are exactly the choices directly linked to the occurrence of showers at their workplace. No employee wants to be working all sweaty the whole day.

Sport

The traffic is not the only reason people go back to simpler, more physical forms of commute. For many employees, it’s their only chance to do something for their health in their hectic lives. They don’t have an hour or two to spare for the simple purpose of physical activity. If they had a shower at their work, many of them would realize that rather than spending an hour in traffic every morning, they can spend it on a bicycle. And that’s a proposition that’s much harder to say no to. It goes without saying, a physical exercise doesn’t have to be concise only from a commute to and from work. An afternoon activity in place of a midday break is more and more popular by the minute. A short run, walk, or a quick gym can do wonders, but only if a shower’s waiting for them when they get back. This kind of break can nicely divvy up the day into two separate parts and bring more energy back to the table. This leads us to the next point, perhaps the most important of them all.

Mental health

Mental health is one of, if not the most important factor when it comes to what part of your business you should put your attention to. Not only do we live in an era in which employees can choose their job based on the mental ramifications of it. At the end of the day, it’s also good for you as an employer. Employees with regular physical activity tend to show better and more stable outcomes. Simply put, the positive approach to the routine they learn at sport, they also put into their work.

What are the other advantages? For one, in summer months when a simple walk from the car to the office is enough for a complete sweat through they’re simply invaluable. And don’t forget about the “What if” factor.  What if I need to go somewhere other than work after my shift ends, what if I smear myself by accident. Those are the questions that your employees often ask themselves and a shower just might be the right soothing answer for their concerns. Whether you want it to or not, a shower will affect your employees and almost all of these effects are positive so why wait?
